The stabilization of bio-oil as an alternative energy source through hydrodeoxygenation using Co and Co-Mo supported on active natural zeolite

Abstract In this study, hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) process of bio-oil from coconut shell waste was catalyzed by active Sarulla natural zeolite (ZAS) supported Co metal and a combination Co-Mo metal. The resulting HDO product is expected to have good physicochemical stability during the storage period so as increase its potential an alternative source hydrocarbon energy. Preparation activation ZAS catalyst with 3M HCl calcination N2 gas flow. Impregnation into carried out wet impregnation method followed oxidation reduction O2 H2 Several important properties were characterized XRD, SEM, FTIR, BET methods. Bio-oil in fixed bed reactor flow at certain temperature for two hours. Analysis products includes analysis acid number, viscosity, elementary content, HHV, component using GC-MS. data obtained showed that loading metals increased spesific surface area, volume pore size, but decreased crystallinity catalyst. Based on distribution products, it indicates monometal catalysts tend produce more liquid phase, coke, while bimetallic organic phase. Viscosity number Co-Mo/ZAS lower than Co/ZAS. Co/ZAS high selectivity towards aqueous has higher HHV viscosity oxygen content result release hydrogen bound water molecules.
